In Memoriam ~ Richard S. Stein 1925-2021

Professor Richard Stein, founder of polymer research at UMass, passed away peacefully at his home on June 21.  Stein's early foresight and energy were key to the establishment and the rise to prominence of the Polymer Science and Engineering Department, and he played central roles in the department for over 50 years. Nearly all the department's students, especially those in his large and active research group, have fond remembrances of his teaching, mentoring, and infectious enthusiasm.  Stein had similar impacts on the world polymer stage, winning most the field's awards and heavily influencing polymer research in Japan, Europe, and elsewhere.  We all will dearly miss him.  An obituary prepared by his family is linked to HERE.

Memorial services will be held at the UMass Campus Center on the 11th floor of the Marriott Center on July 8. Arrival begins at 2 p.m. Services will begin at 3 p.m., with refreshments to follow. Parking is available in the Campus Center parking garage. See the zoom link info below to view virtually.
