We will consider all applications that are submitted by January 1st for the following fall term. We do not offer spring submissions. Admission offers are made by April 15th, and are considered by the Polymer Science and Engineering Department as an academic unit, not by individual professors within the Department. Advisor selection is conducted during the first semester of the Ph.D. program.

For the GRE and TOEFL test, the Institutional Code for the University of Massachusetts Amherst is 3917- no department code is necessary. The average total TOEFL score that the University of Massachusetts requires is above 610 and there are no minimum GRE score. TOEFL scores are good for two years. The department follows the University's minimum GRE and TOEFL requirements; however, admission to our program is very competitive.

Only applications for the Ph.D. program are guaranteed consideration. An M.S. program is not formally supported by the department. M.S. applications are strongly discouraged.

Students who are in good academic standing and are making satisfactory degree progress are guaranteed full financial support. This includes tuition, fees, and a cost-of-living stipend.

For additional information about the application process, contact the Graduate Program Manager, Lisa Groth at graduate@polysci.umass.edu.
