To understand conductivity in films of poly(3,4 ethylenedioxythiophene): poly(styrene sulfonic acid) (PEDOT:PSS), the structure and phase behavior of the aqueous pre-cast solution was investigated. The solutions exist as a dispersion of charged, physical micro-gels strongly influenced by electrostatic interactions. Two distinct phase transitions occur: a polymer-solvent coexistence, and a physical gelation.
