Scientific Publishing: The Roles of Editor, Reviewer and Author and How to Maximize Success

Joe is currently an editor at Wiley working on Advanced Functional Materials, Small, Starch, Journal of Polymer Science and the Macromolecular journals.  In addition, he is currently serving as chair of the editorial workstream working group for the Wiley Research DEI initiative.

Scientific publishing is an essential component to any research endeavor, but the process itself can sometimes feel shrouded in mystery.  In this talk, the importance of scientific publishing is explained by examining the roles of editors, reviewers, and authors.  Likewise, the ethical considerations for each of these key players will be reviewed, and the steps involved from pre-submission to final publication will be clarified along with advice on maximizing your success of acceptance.  Finally, opportunities in scientific publishing as an often overlooked career path will be discussed.
