Ryan Murphy

Ryan J. Murphy has been with the Department of Polymer Science and Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst since 2002. Ryan is a Ph.D. candidate in Professor Murugappan Muthukumar’s group studying the translocation dynamics of synthetic polyelectrolytes though protein and synthetic nanopores. Ryan has said his reasons for coming to PSE were because of the great research, facilities, faculty and reputation. UMass Amherst, he says, is a wonderful location with great culture. What he likes about PSE, “PSE has a rich history as the pioneers in polymer research, which will be carried on by the current young and enthusiastic faculty members. The broad range of research coupled with an interdisciplinary spirit makes this program an ideal place for graduate research.” He was recently named a 2007 American Physical Society Frank J. Padden Award Finalist. Upon his graduation, he will be working at NIST Polymers Division as an NRC Postdoctoral Fellow.
