E. Ilker Ozay ~ Global Academic Competition Award

Ilker received  an award from the Global Academic Competition co-sponsored by The Catalent Applied Drug Delivery Institute partnered with the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS)  for his submission entitled, "Slipping Through the Blood Brain Barrier with Cell Penetrating Peptide Mimics”.  Each winner will receive a cash prize of $2,000 and annual membership to AAPS.

Summary of Submission:

The objective of this review is to understand how drug delivery can be achieved to cross the blood brain barrier by using cell penetration peptide mimics (CPPMs). With the feature of CPPMs, biologics can be delivered into the brain with a high efficiency and safety. Since humanized antibodies are very promising for clinical studies, CPPMs offer to deliver those antibodies into the brain in order to specifically target an intracellular molecule. This may give a big advantage to find and interfere with better targets for brain diseases.
