Professor Al Crosby to Receive Young Adhesion Scientist Award

At the upcoming Adhesion Society meeting, Professor Al Crosby will be honored with the Adhesion Society’s Young Adhesion Scientist Award. This is the first time this award will be given. The purpose of the Young Adhesion Scientist Award is to recognize a young scientist or engineer for conducting outstanding and fundamental research in adhesion science. UMass Medical School’s Professor Jie Song to Lecture on Friday

Professor Jie Song, Departments of Orthopedics and Cell Biology at the UMass Medical School, will be the guest lecturer on Friday, November 30, 2007 at 3:30 PM in Conte A110-111.  The title of Professor Song’s lecture is “Synthetic Extracellular Matrices Guiding the Repair and Regeneration of Musculoskeletal Tissues”.  She will be hosted by Professor Thomas J. McCarthy. This event is open to the public.  All are encouraged to attend.

Dean Matthew Tirrell to Lecture on Polyelectrolyte Brushes

The Richard A. Auhll Professor and Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara, Professor Matthew Tirrell, will be lecturing on Friday, November 16 in Conte A110-111 at 3:30 PM. His lecture titled, Polyelectrolyte Brushes in Various Multi-valent Environments, will be hosted by Professor Ryan Hayward. Dean Tirrell is a former alum of the Department of Polymer Science and Engineering. This lecture is open to the public. All are encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be served prior to the lecture.

Professor Krystyn Van Vliet to Speak on Friday, Nov. 9, 2007

Professor Krystyn Van Vliet from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology will be lecturing on Friday, November 9, 2007.  Professor Vliet will be hosted by Professor Al Crosby.  Her lecture titled, “Mapping Mechanics of Synthetic and Biological Polymer Surfaces,” will begin at 3:30 PM in Conte A110.  Refreshments will be served prior to the lecture.  This event is open to the public.  All are encouraged to attend.
