Outreach at Boston Museum of Science

UMass MRSEC Outreach programs, VISUAL and Polymers All Around Us, visit the Boston Museum of Science for the 3rd consecutive year. Images from VISUAL are digitally displayed this summer on a 72" plasma screen in the Museum of Science's Gordon Current Science and Technology Center.

Graduate student volunteers Chelsea Davis, Felicia Bokel, Brittany Deronde, Jon Pham, and Brian Cromer accompanied by Greg Dabkowski (MRSEC Outreach Coordinator) and Ryan Hayward (MRSEC Associate Director for Education and Diversity) visited the museum on August 24, 2011. They engaged an estimated 500 visitors with a presentation on polymers and also the Polymers All Around Us program - a series of hands-on demonstrations on polymers.

Polymerge Art Exhibit

The Hope & Feathers Gallery in Amherst showcased work by Belchertown High School students created as part of the Polymerge program, which relies on scientific images from the UMass MRSEC VISUAL Program as inspiration for art.

The art featured in the exhibit was the culmination of work by students during the 2010-2011 school year in the classrooms of Belchertown High School art teachers Lori St Pierre and Liz Teixeira.  Polymerge was first introduced at Belchertown High by St Pierre during the Spring 2010 semester. The goal of the program is to encourage students to explore the intersections between science and art, allowing them to express their creativity and explore concepts from both areas at the same time.

The artwork was on display at Hope & Feathers June 2-30th, 2011
